Biography

Luke De La Salle started drum lessons at the age of seven with early training in the rock idiom, however, as Luke developed he adapted his style to incorporate many different styles and skills. Moving to Simon Balle School in Hertfordshire in 2007 allowed Luke to play with many talented conservatoire and industry standard musicians within the school Big Band, Jazz Combo and Concert Band. After two years at Simon Balle, Luke moved on to study a BA (Hons) in Jazz at Leeds College of Music where he graduated with a first class honours receiving the Ernest H Morris award for Community Music in the process. He has since completed a PGCE in Primary Education and an MA (distinction) in Psychology of Music in Education, Performance and Wellbeing.

Currently, Luke is involved in two major musical projects: ‘Soul Definition’ (Motown era covers band) and ‘The Catherine Lima Quartet’ (American Song Book Jazz). Luke also performs with a variety of Jazz combination bands, big bands, as well as performing regularly as a pit percussionist in local amateur dramatic stage shows.

Luke completed a PGCE in Primary Education from Leeds University in 2013 and moved to London to teach. In 2019 Luke became Head of Music across a 5 school academy in North London where he currently leads music sessions to children aged 4-11 as well as delivering training to teachers in the local area.

Alongside classroom music and private drum lessons, Luke is always looking for new opportunities to perform and expand his musical abilities.
